I remember when I was planning my own wedding a few years ago, I didn’t really know where to start. Although you can find plenty of advice on the internet, in magazines and books I didn’t always find it that helpful – I sometimes felt that it was more suitable for brides living in some fantasy parallel universe!

Because of my own experiences it has always been important to me to offer as much guidance and help to my wedding clients as possible. I have both the perspective of being a bride and a professional who spends a lot of time immersed in weddings. Photographers are often the only wedding vendor who spends the whole day at a wedding – from the bride and groom getting ready through to the first dance and wedding reception. This gives us a wealth of experience that is helpful for brides and grooms.

However, I wanted to go further than that and share the thoughts of other brides and grooms too. So a big thank you to Colin and Carolyn for taking the time to share their experiences. Colin and Carolyn chose to celebrate their marriage with a Humanist Ceremony at Balbirnie House in Fife last year, and had a lovely intimate wedding with their closest family and friends.

The Wedding Planner

Today I am really happy to introduce a guest blogger. Alison Tinlin, is a wedding planner whose company Plans and Presents is based in Glasgow. Alison offers a wedding planning service throughout Scotland and the UK and has received some great testimonials from very happy brides. After planning her own wedding she realised that she had a flair for organising weddings and events so Plans and Presents was born.

As Alison says “We are all unique and so each event should be unique. I believe that you, the client will benefit form my one-to-one personalised, friendly approach and that fact that your best interests will always be at the forefront. I hope that is reflected in my motto – Your Day, Your Way”.

Sometimes we get so caught up with the finer details of our wedding day that we forget the reason why we are doing it in the first place.

Sometimes there is so much pressure to compete or be unique that love gets forgotton a bit, anyone seen BRIDE WARS ? All our nerves can get frazzled now and then and we can say things in anger, stress and frustration that we don’t really mean.

  • Give yourself time to take stock every now and then.
  • Sit down with your H2B, and just have you and him time.
  • It might be a night out at the cinema, it might be dinner, it might be a cuddle in front of the telly.
  • Its not important where, its just the doing it.

And when we are on the subject of taking stock, take time to consider yourself too.

Sometimes in the hustle , bustle of party and wedding planning , we sometimes forget ourselves too.
We get so carried away with arrangements and the busy busy busy that we don’t take enough time for ourselves.

I will give you the advice that anybody would , in that it is important to eat well, drink plenty of water, take a little light exercise if you can, and if you think you need it, take a multivitamin.
Once a week, take a night out for you [like you would with date night] and just chill.

Run a bubble bath, give yourself a home manicure and pedicure, put on a facemask, exfoliate and paint those nails.
Light the candles , have a glass of wine, put on your favourite music and read that trashy romance novel.

Like taking a step back and prioritising the importance of your relationship, you need to do the same thing for yourself.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and I would like to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year.

There has been a lot going on in my world lately except when it comes to blog posts of which there have been too few!

As you will have hopefully noticed, the blog has had a bit of a makeover and is looking a bit tidier. I have even managed to include a few photographs of myself in the header. Like most photographers I do not really like having my photograph taken so it took me a while to dig these out and as you may guess from the images I like warm and sunny places! I thought it would be nice to include one from my wedding too, it was just over a year ago so I really do know how it feels to be on the other side of the camera. We decided to have an intimate, destination wedding in Sorrento, and appreciating the value of photography, chose a package which included two photographers to tell the story of the whole day. I am so pleased that we did because just 14 months later my memories of the day have blurred and we are so glad that we have a gorgeous album to help us relive the day.

On the business front, I have been making connections and am developing partnerships with some hand picked vendors which I am really excited about. I hope to be able to tell you more about these in the New Year. For now though I am really pleased to say that I have partnered with Irving at Freedom Hair Experience and Kezia of The Beauty Room to provide the photography for the makeover prize for a campaign which recently took place on Tay FM. Irving does a lot of great work for charity in Dundee and Tayside and recently organised the Face of Freedom 2009, Dundee’s Next Top Model. This is a great evening and raises a lot of money for local charity – this years beneficiary was Maggies Cancer Caring Centre in Dundee.

I promised some more photographs from Dean and Jo’s wedding as well as Dean and Dani’s wedding. These will be coming soon, and I hope to be able to introduce some interesting posts by guest bloggers in the not too distant future.

As no post is complete without some images, here are some photographs from the Face of Freedom evening, including survivors from Maggies and some of the acts who provided entertainment during the evening.

The announcement of the new website for Louise Beattie Photography, Scottish wedding and lifestyle portrait photographer, with a slideshow preview.

It has been a while in coming. I changed the design several times. I have spent too much time working on it. I have blamed it for not writing here as often as I would like. But at last it is here – my new website is live.

As well as photographs from weddings and lifestyle portrait sessions you will find information about the services I offer and various ways to contact me. Go take a look and share it with your friends:

www.louisebeattie.com

Here is a slideshow to wet your appetite.

The site will continue to grow and evolve with more information, images and personal fine art work so check back every now and again.

If you haven’t already done so, go take a look, and add a comment below, I would love to know what you think.

Boutique Photography

August 11th, 2009

Boutique photography. You can think of it like a journey. A bus will get you from A to B, but if you want to enjoy the luxury of a fine vehicle, the experience of sitting in a climate controlled environment adjusted for your comfort whilst sitting in sumptuous leather seats listening to your favourite music, then perhaps that top end Mercedes is the right choice for you. Boutique photography is the equivalent to the Mercedes.

First of all a big apology for the gap in posts, due to a holiday. I had planned to post before I went away but I was beaten by circumstances.

I like to think of my business as providing boutique wedding and lifestyle portrait photography. But why boutique?

Boutique because I provide a specialised service, using the finest bespoke products, to people who value photography and their memories. Bookings are limited to enable the level of experience and service that is so important. This, along with superb end products, results in heirloom quality albums and images that tell your story and can be passed on to the next generation.

A lot of time is spent creating bespoke photography sessions to ensure that your portrait art is truly personalised as well as capturing the essence of you and your family. From guidance on what to wear and choice of locations, to time spent with you viewing the images using a projector and screen, helping you to make the right image and product choices.

The time invested in the photographic session is just a small part of the process, but that is a whole post in itself which I will save for another time.

With boutique photography it is the whole experience that is truly wonderful and the images which make the investment of time and money worthwhile.

As no post is complete without images, these are from a session with Brad and Laura in the Lake District.
