I remember when I was planning my own wedding a few years ago, I didn’t really know where to start. Although you can find plenty of advice on the internet, in magazines and books I didn’t always find it that helpful – I sometimes felt that it was more suitable for brides living in some fantasy parallel universe!

Because of my own experiences it has always been important to me to offer as much guidance and help to my wedding clients as possible. I have both the perspective of being a bride and a professional who spends a lot of time immersed in weddings. Photographers are often the only wedding vendor who spends the whole day at a wedding – from the bride and groom getting ready through to the first dance and wedding reception. This gives us a wealth of experience that is helpful for brides and grooms.

However, I wanted to go further than that and share the thoughts of other brides and grooms too. So a big thank you to Colin and Carolyn for taking the time to share their experiences. Colin and Carolyn chose to celebrate their marriage with a Humanist Ceremony at Balbirnie House in Fife last year, and had a lovely intimate wedding with their closest family and friends.

Scottish Wedding at Forter Castle | Dean & Dani

February 5th, 2010

Wedding photography at an intimate highland wedding in Forter Castle in Glen Isla, Perthshire, a perfect setting for Scottish destination weddings. Photography by wedding photographer Louise Beattie, based in Angus, near to Dundee.

Scottish Highland Weddings

Scotland is a great place to have a wedding, there are so many beautiful castles that can be used as venues providing great settings for wedding photography. Forter Castle, set in the beautiful Glen Isla in Perthshire, is no exception and has recently been renovated. It is easily accessible from Scotland’s main airports at Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and with helicopter transfers available it is an ideal location for destination weddings. It’s central location, with good access to Perth, Dundee and Angus also make it an ideal place for intimate highland weddings

When Dean and Dani decided to have a humanist wedding ceremony they chose to hire the castle for the weekend, sharing it with close family and friends. The celebration was held in the Forter Castle’s own chapel making it a unique wedding. The video below is a slideshow of some of the photography from the wedding and shows what a stunning setting the castle is, and as you can see they were blessed with a beautiful autumn day.

When photographing a wedding I love to tell the story of the day and you can see some of the photographs from the preparations for this wedding here.

I hope that you enjoyed the video, if you would like to find out more about my wedding photography services you can visit my website or contact me.

Dean and Dani chose to have an intimate wedding at Forter Castle in Glen Isla recently, sharing it with close family and friends. Everyone stayed at the castle for the weekend, making it an occasion to remember. I love intimate weddings, they seem so much more personal and this one was no exception.

The castle is full of character and makes a great setting for a wedding with four poster beds, great fireplaces and historical paintings hanging on the walls, making it a real experience for everyone.

The Wedding of Donna & Dave, Spynie Palace

August 19th, 2009

The job of a wedding photographer is to capture the essence of your love and tell the story of the day. In years to come, when the memories have faded, a lovingly crafted album will help you not only relive the emotions of the day, but enable you to share that day with your children and grandchildren. Imagine, in years to come, when a 10 year old climbs up on to your knee as you share your wedding album and says “Mummy, you looked beautiful” or “Granny, you were so glamorous”.

Weddings are beautiful occasions but for the bride and groom the day can pass in a blur.

Donna and Dave were married at Spynie Palace, near Elgin on the Moray Firth, and the story of their day is a privilege to tell.

At the beginning of this post I talked about how a wedding album can tell a story for years to come, becoming a family heirloom to be passed down the generations. Can you imagine settling down with a glass of wine in front of the fire, and a CD of images?

If a wedding album is to stand the test of time, it needs to be crafted from the finest materials. I have chosen Queensberry as an album supplier as they make beautiful albums which will be treasured by this generation and the next. You can find out more about their gorgeous albums on their website or at the Queensberry blog.
