I remember when I was planning my own wedding a few years ago, I didn’t really know where to start. Although you can find plenty of advice on the internet, in magazines and books I didn’t always find it that helpful – I sometimes felt that it was more suitable for brides living in some fantasy parallel universe!

Because of my own experiences it has always been important to me to offer as much guidance and help to my wedding clients as possible. I have both the perspective of being a bride and a professional who spends a lot of time immersed in weddings. Photographers are often the only wedding vendor who spends the whole day at a wedding – from the bride and groom getting ready through to the first dance and wedding reception. This gives us a wealth of experience that is helpful for brides and grooms.

However, I wanted to go further than that and share the thoughts of other brides and grooms too. So a big thank you to Colin and Carolyn for taking the time to share their experiences. Colin and Carolyn chose to celebrate their marriage with a Humanist Ceremony at Balbirnie House in Fife last year, and had a lovely intimate wedding with their closest family and friends.

St Andrews Pre Wedding Photography | Carl & Amy

We had a lot of fun at Carl & Amy’s pre-wedding photography session and the weather couldn’t have been more beautiful. I was delighted when they said that they wanted their pre-wedding photography session to be in St Andrews – not only does St Andrews have a special place in their hearts so their photographs will have more meaning, it is a great place for photography with picturesque streets, the Cathedral, the beach and great views.

Carl and Amy first met at whilst studying at St Andrews University thanks to the universities tradition of ‘academic families’ where senior students ‘adopt’ newly arrived freshers and teach them about university life in St Andrews. It was a rainy ‘raisin’ weekend in November 2004 when Carl and Amy met for the first time at a house party, thanks to Amy’s academic dad, and Carl’s best man, Danny. Unfortunately though, Amy’s only lasting impression of Carl that evening was his yellow inflatable hat!

However, over the following months chance meetings led to Carl asking Amy out for their first date on Valentines Day and they became inseparable until Carl graduated in 2006. Throughout the next few years their relationship grew stronger despite the distance that their careers and travelling created and in 2009 Amy finally moved to England, only for Carl to start a new career in Edinburgh!

Carl eventually proposed to Amy in the only way he knew how, he got her a big shiny diamond ring and took her Prague. Waiting until the first chime of midnight on New Years Day 2010 Carl popped the question with 50 Russian tourists witnessing the entire event!

Carl and Amy now both live in Edinburgh but wanted to get married at a place that was special to them both and had significance to their relationship. Having studied at St Andrews University they are able to wed in the beautiful St Salvator’s Chapel and I am really looking forward to their wedding later this year.

Anders and Ellen were married at the beautiful Compton Verney in Warwickshire on a gorgeous summers day last June. Anders, who is from Sweden, met Ellen through their best friends on a skiing holiday and later proposed on a bridge in the city of Bosa, Sardinia, with the city all lit up behind. Many of Anders family travelled over for the wedding, with some wearing traditional dress.

Ellen’s hair was by Vogue International in Leamingon Spa and make by Space NK.
Ellen wore a beautiful Pronovias dress from Eternal Bride in Warwick with custom made shoes from Emmy.
The gorgeous flowers were from Flowers@The ICC in Birmingham.
The excellent wedding breakfast was by Amadeus and the stunning wedding cake was created by Cotton & Crumbs of Coventry.
A big thank you to John Cleary Photography for working with me on this wedding.
